The entry bench serves as a place to sit, drop bags, and to store the abundance of
footwear we have, to handle all of our activities and Canadian seasons.

Built entirely using local SPF wood; a mix of 1x2, 2x2, 2x4 and 2x6. The shelf is a single 3/4" pine board running nearly the whole length of the wall. The wood was finished with a couple coats of clear satin wipe-on poly.

The wood hooks were selected to visually blend in with the slats, when they are not in use. There are two levels which provide space for different sized jackets, bags, umbrellas, etc. The bottom row is easily accessible to our little one, encouraging more independence!

The wood slat wall is completely friction fit between the floor and ceiling, using industrial leveling feet at the base of the wall and at the top, which were each tightened with a wrench. It was a bit more planning and sequencing, but it means no screws damaging the original plaster work in this 1950's home.
